Artist Scoop

At the age of fifteen, Julian Bliss has firmly established himself on the international concert scene. He recently made highly successful debuts at the BBC Proms, the Wigmore Hall, the Louvre Auditorium and the Verbier Festival and has appeared as soloist with orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Zurich and Munich Chamber Orchestras, Bergen Philharmonic, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and on tour in Japan with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. At the age of twelve, Julian became the youngest person ever to receive his Post-Graduate Artists Diploma from the Indiana University, Bloomington (USA). During his studies in the USA, he also won first prize in the Concerto Soloists Young Artists Competition in Philadelphia. His other extraordinary achievements include a successful debut recording for EMI entitled Music for Clarinet and Piano which led to an invitation to record exclusively for EMI on their main label.

In his native England, Julian is a Royal favourite, having performed several times at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Covent Garden Opera House. In June 2002 he was among the distinguished artists invited to perform at the Queen's Golden Jubilee Celebrations at Buckingham Palace which was televised nationally to a live audience of 12,000. He has also appeared on television around the world in forty countries, in a three-part documentary for BBC Channel 4 entitled "Gifted ", the Today programme in the USA and on NHK in Japan. Future engagements include appearances with the London Philharmonic at the Royal Festival Hall, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. Julian balances his busy schedule of engagements with his clarinet lessons in Lubeck with Sabine Meyer, his studies in chamber music at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the completion of his A-level examinations next summer.
