Artist Scoop

The Whistlebinkies were formed during the great surge of interest in traditional and Celtic music in the late 1960s. Since then, they have become a leading force in the field of folk music, specializing in the traditional Scottish music both old and new. The Whistlebinkies have toured extensively to France, Germany, Italy, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Sweden and Spain and were the first Scottish music group ever to tour to China. Major festival appearances include the Edinburgh International Festival, Celtic Connections, the Hong Kong Folk Festival and the Festival Interceltique at Lorient, Brittany. The Whistlebinkies are also pioneers in the collaboration of traditional folk musicians with orchestra and have performed on numerous occasions with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. In 2005 a Creative Scotland Award was awarded to Eddie McGuire, culminating in the collaboration between The Whistlebinkies and Scottish-based Chinese traditional music group Harmony in the premiere of the ballet Tian Di Yuan (Defying Fate).

The Whistlebinkies team up with the CCOHK in a unique performance of traditional Scottish airs, jigs and reels at the CCOHK's upcoming SCOTLAND THE BRAVE! concert - not to be missed!
