Director’s Notes

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the CCOHK I would like to wish you all a very Happy Year of the Dog!

Coming up soon on 9 March we are presenting a most exciting event for you with Sir Thomas Allen, Britain's favourite baritone. This is Sir Thomas Allen's debut concert in Hong Kong and we are thrilled to be sharing the stage with such a highly esteemed artist. Described by the critics as "a music master of supreme vocal and dramatic ability", Sir Thomas Allen is equally at home with both the operatic and concert vocal repertory as demonstrated in our concert. Mozart arias are on the menu (of course!) and there will be a rare opportunity to hear Dvovrák’s beautifully written Biblical Songs. To hear Sir Thomas Allen singing for the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations click here.

If you missed our "Messiah in the Park" performance both live and on television, then you can view the webcast again by clicking here. Around a thousand people came to celebrate the Christmas message with Handel's joyful music in the spectacular surroundings of Hong Kong Park. The sun shone that day and we were even treated to some fireworks during the carols! A most memorable community event for all!

Recently we ventured into Scottish music with the Whistlebinkies and the Red Guards Band. The mix of traditional Scottish folk instruments and pipe band with orchestra made for an extraordinary experience. Radio 4 once again captured the moment. Do listen in by clicking here.
