In this issue we are pleased to share with you COMMENTS FROM OUR AUDIENCE MEMBERS who attended our “Yang Liu & The Lady Tennant Stradivarius” concert on 19 September 2006.
Here are comments from some of the audience members:
This was a brilliant and fabulous performance! Yang Liu, the Lady Tennant Stradivarius and the CCOHK presented an absolutely wonderful partnership here. The standard of the orchestra was very high - amazing to hear such a small orchestra performing at such a superb standard. The three pieces on the programme were interpreted just right. Yang Liu’s technique and feeling for the music moved me. His rapport with the orchestra was also excellent. “Thank you” to all the performers for such a memorable performance.
---------- Miss Wai (Wong Tai Sin)
I got a good feeling from tonight’s performance. The programme choice was perfect – not too long and not too short. Yang Liu was first class – he was really involved in the music, and the sound he produced with the violin was clear and pleasing. The encore was out of this world.
---------- Mr. Lo (Kowloon Bay)
I was most impressed by the orchestra which, to me, mastered the classical period style very well. The string sound was balanced, refined and expressive with good phrasing and dynamics. The support from the bass section was extraordinary!
---------- Miss Sit (Tin Shui Wai)
Yang Liu is an artist in every sense of the word. He does not just play the music: he puts his heart into it and speaks to the audience through his music. It was like he was breathing the music, while the CCOHK was the heartbeat. It was such a wonderful and moving performance.
---------- Mr. Ip (Ap Lei Chau)
This was a beautifully balanced programme. It was a treat to see and hear Andrew Sewell. I enjoyed the first piece by Arensky as I am not familiar with this composer’s works. The CCOHK delivered a great performance of this piece. Yang Liu gave a wonderful rendition of Mozart’s K216, and he obviously enjoyed playing. What a privilege to hear the Lady Tennant! Haydn’s symphony No. 49 is a favourite of mine and was beautifully played by the orchestra - especially the second movement. Well done and thanks too for the encore!
---------- Ms. Magee (Lamma Island)
The whole concert presented a feeling of ease, and the flow between the pieces on the programme was good. The last piece “La Passione” definitely gripped the atmosphere and climaxed the concert.
---------- Miss Lam (Mei Foo)
It is a delightful surprise to “discover” the CCOHK and to hear the wonderful sound of (and see quite close up) the Lady Tennant in Yang Liu’s sensitive and agile hands. I also appreciate the interesting programme mix. I really like the “unheard” Arensky Variations on a melody that is a familiar favourite as a Christian song.
---------- Father Ciaran Kane (Cheung Chau)
This is the first time for me to hear a CCOHK performance – impressive! A small orchestra with professionally trained members gave a good string performance. Andrew Sewell conducted the team beautifully with a delightful “dessert” (encore) at the end of the show. Oh, and Yang Liu – such a star! He made beautiful sounds with the Lady Tennant. I liked Haydn’s “La Passione” best.
---------- Mr. Wong (Central)
You can hear the sound of every musician in this orchestra, and the tone quality is really pleasing to the ears, making the music more clearly accessible to the audience. I do hope that every member of the orchestra can do a solo piece/performance at some point - to show each member’s good technique and quality.
---------- Miss Poon (Shau Kei Wan)
A fantastic performance by all! It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear the Lady Tennant being played by such a high-calibre musician! Thank you, CCOHK. Keep the great concerts coming!
---------- Mrs. Thornington (Discovery Bay)
