Music Amuses
Did you know that the BANDONEON, the principal instrument of tango - one of the sexiest musical art forms today - was originally invented in Germany as a substitute for the organ in church music?
The bandoneon was developed by Heinrich Band in 1854 as an improvement to the accordion. It was originally used as a substitute for the organ in church. Around 1890 it made its way from Germany to Argentina and became an indispensable part of tango music due to its deep and expressive tone. Unlike the accordion which has a keyboard on one side and buttons on the other, the bandoneon has buttons on both sides (38 on the right and 33 on the left). Each button can produce two notes, depending on whether the squeezebox is inflated or deflated.
Argentinian bandoneon player Daniel Binelli will perform works by Piazzolla at the CCOHK’s upcoming Tango! concert. Don’t miss the chance to hear this performance by one of the leading experts of Astor Piazzolla’s music! |
