Interview with Emily Lin, flautist of the CCOHK.
Where are you from and how long have you been in Hong Kong?
I am originally from Taiwan and was educated in Los Angeles. I have been in Hong Kong for almost five years.
What brought you to Hong Kong?
I had always wanted to come back to Asia at some point in my life. Five years ago I felt it was the right time for me to come back.
What do you enjoy most about playing in the CCOHK?
I like the orchestra’s wide variety of repertoire, especially the wonderful chamber orchestral pieces which are rarely performed by large orchestras.
Which CCOHK guest artist has made the biggest impression on you?
Jane Rutter, the Australian flute soloist, in the concert entitled “Bird Symphony”. The tone she produced was absolutely brilliant!
Which CCOHK concert has been the most memorable for you?
The concert entitled “Bird Symphony” because of the fantastic flute soloist mentioned above, and also because it featured pieces which were interesting and challenging for me to play.
How did you come about choosing the flute?
When I was still a primary school student I attended a conservatory of music in my free time. All students of the conservatory were required to learn piano and one other instrument. At the time I was so impressed with the unique tone of the flute that I chose the flute immediately. I realized later that the flute had another advantage: it is the instrument that is easiest to carry around!
Name one of the most important milestones in your music career.
Winning the Los Angeles Philharmonic scholarship, which offered me the opportunity to play with many world-class soloists.
What message do you have for our friends?
Come and share our joy in playing all the wonderful pieces of music. |
