January 2007 - Issue No. 23

Director’s Notes

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year!! May 2007 will be a special one for you! It was fabulous seeing so many children and families attend our recent Christmas programmes - especially "The Snowman & The Bear". For those of you who were unable to make it to our “Seasons Greetings in the Park” concert you can experience it again on line. To access the TV broadcast click here and the radio broadcast click here.

On 13 January we will be presenting a very special “All-Piazzolla” programme. If you have never experienced the music of Piazzolla, then I highly recommend you do. His gift in fusing the nostalgia and rhythms of Argentinian tango with classical music caused a scandal at the time – yet there is nothing else like it today. Both musicians and audiences love the energy this kind of music exudes – you too will be hooked! In presenting the music of Piazzolla we are both thrilled and honoured to be performing with Argentine Daniel Binelli, one of the greatest bandoneon players today. Binelli along with Argentinian pianist Polly Ferman will bring music that is simply “in their blood”. With Columbian conductor Germán Augusto Gutierrez at the helm, this is going to be a concert to remember. I look forward to seeing you there!
