Born in Rieti near Rome, soprano Novella Bassano studied opera and singing at the Conservatory Alfredo Casella in L’Aquila and graduated with high distinction. Among her teachers were Marina Gentile, Claudio Desderi, Luis Alva, Renato Bruson and William Matteuzzi. She has won numerous prizes in major singing competitions including the Caruso Prize in Milano (2001), the Mattia Battistini Prize in Rieti (2006) and the 54th European Community Competition for Young Opera Singers in Spoleto (2000). In addition to performing in most of the major Italian opera theatres, Novella has also performed abroad in France, Belgium, England, Hungary, Holland, Japan, Mexico and Brazil. Her repertoire includes L'Elisir d’amor and Don Pasquale by Donizetti, Rigoletto and La Traviata by Verdi, Carmen by Bizet, La Bohème and Suor Angelica by Puccini, La serva padrona by Pergolesi, Le Cinesi by Gluck, Il Mondo della luna by Haydn and Il segreto di Susanna by Wolf-Ferrari. She has collaborated with the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara, the Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, the Istituto Nazionale Tostiano in Ortona and with conductors such as Bruno Bartoletti, Marcello Panni, Massimilano Stefanelli and Giuseppe Montanari. In 2006 she recorded a CD of songs by Sir Francesco Paolo Tosti with the Accademia Strumentale Italiana conducted by Giuseppe Piccinino.
