Director’s Notes
Dear Friends,
I invite you to come and ELEVATE your listening experience with the versatility and intimacy that is unique to a chamber orchestra. 2007/2008 sees us spanning the centuries with a kaleidoscope of sounds from Baroque to hip hop.
Our MASTERS series showcases two of America's most versatile musicians. Allen Vizzutti is one of those rare trumpeters who can play Bach's Brandenburg concerto no. 2 and a sprinkling of jazz in one night. Robert Bonfiglio, too, will stretch the limits of the lesser-heard classical harmonica.
Other highlights include guest appearances by two of Israel's young and exciting DUOS – the Silver-Garburg piano duo and the Gurfinkel brother twins on clarinet. A special chemistry develops when two people devote hours of playing chamber music together. Don't miss it.
For FAMILIES we will be dipping under the sea to meet the Little Mermaid and Juanita the Spanish Lobster. These two captivating stories narrated to live orchestral music will have both kids and parents mesmerized. Later in the season, as part of the 2008 Hong Kong International Arts Carnival, we will be visiting the Magic Jungle. Fun is in store as we discover that baboons play bassoons and hippos piccolos...
2007 sees us on the move with performances in both Italy and mainland China. This December we will be TOURING Italy giving concerts in L'Aquila, Ascoli Piceno, Vasto and at the "Liuteria nel Mezzogiorno" festival in Ortona near Rome. The programme is a special blend of East and West featuring talent closer to home and music by three prominent Chinese composers.
Whether we are playing in the East or the West, our ultimate journey is towards high-performance music-making. So come REDEFINE your listening experience with us to the music of Bach, Frederick the Great, Schnittke, Villa-Lobos, Tan Dun, Mao Yuan, Mendelssohn, Mahler, Sir George Martin et al.
