In this issue we are pleased to share with you COMMENTS FROM OUR AUDIENCE MEMBERS who attended our "Spirit of Two Strings" concert on 30 November 2007.
Here are comments from some of the audience members:
A fantastic programme - especially the ever-wonderful "Crouching Tiger" concerto. The heart-wrenching strings and erhu were magnificent, as were the amazing percussionists and vibrant hand-drum solo. Italy will love it!
---------- Miss Stevenson (Hong Kong Island)
We thoroughly enjoyed the performance. My five-year-old daughter listened intently and was totally absorbed by the beautiful music and amazing instrumental techniques displayed throughout the evening.
---------- Ms. Chiang (Pok Fu Lam)
Splendid! Superb erhu playing! I was carried away to another world. Hope to enjoy this programme again in the future.
---------- Ms. Leung (Sha Tin)
I did not know what to expect before the performance started. I was delighted by the first half: it was very refreshing to hear eastern music performed by western instruments, and the combination of the solo erhu and the violin was a unique experience. The second half was even better: every player was completely dedicated. A special mention goes to the percussion section whose playing was infectious indeed! All in all a great performance from the solo cello, erhu and violin!!!
---------- Ms. Wong (Kowloon)
Splendid performance! I was especially carried away by the parts in which the erhu and the violin played together.
---------- Miss Yip (Sham Shui Po)
Very moving.
---------- Mr. Wong (Sha Tin)
Mao Yuan's "Two Scenes from China" is of the Chinese folk-tune style and was well orchestrated by the composer. There was good chemistry between the solo erhu and violin parts in Gang Situ's double concerto. However I was a bit disappointed with the composer's simplified orchestration. The performance by Hsin Hsiao-hung and Ho Hong-ying was out of this world. Tan Dun's "Crouching Tiger" concerto is a masterpiece full of lush orchestral effects. The orchestra performed the difficult passages to a high professional standard. I especially liked the use of the flute in this work. I was also delighted to see many young people attending the concert.
---------- Mr. Ip (Tsz Wan Shan)
Splendid and fascinating - especially Hsin Hsiao-hung's superb erhu playing and skillful technique which contributed to some musically high moments. Ho Hong-ying's violin playing was captivating and left a deep impression on the audience. I would like to thank all the performers for their hard work in creating a wonderful performance and a soothing evening of music.
---------- Mrs. Chan (Wong Tai Sin)
Tonight's performance was spectacular with wonderful Chinese and western music playing.
---------- Miss Yew (Yau Yat Chuen)
Excellent performance! Exciting!!
---------- Mr. Chan (Hung Hom)
