In this issue we are pleased to share with you COMMENTS FROM OUR AUDIENCE MEMBERS who attended our "The Little Mermaid & Juanita The Spanish Lobster" concert on 26 January 2008.

Here are comments from some of the audience members:

The pianists and the orchestra were outstanding. Sivan Silver played so expressively: she was a pleasure to watch and listen to. I was also very impressed with the narrator for "Juanita The Spanish Lobster". Well done! A great way to introduce children to music!

----------  Ms. Heath (The Peak)

Thank you for the two brilliant performances. Our family of three generations all went home with big smiles on our faces. May there be similar performances in future to raise children’s interest in music. Keep it up!

---------- Ms. Chan (North Point)

I’ve been waiting so long for this kind of performance: music associated with a story. It is also a good language-learning experience.

---------- Ms. Tong (Hung Hom)

The performance was special and creative.

---------- Ms. Ng (Quarry Bay)

It was awesome, funny, entertaining and just hilarious! We all really liked it and the crowd was "alive"! The best concert I’ve ever been to.

---------- Mr. Or (Central)

I’ve never seen such a fantastic performance in my life.

---------- Miss Wong (Tuen Mun)

This is the first time I’ve been to a concert, and the experience left a deep impression on me. I found the programme to be exciting and "fun".

---------- Miss Chan (Aberdeen)

In "The Little Mermaid" the music matched the story wonderfully. The piano parts were especially attractive and important! The diver who introduced the concert was sharp and dynamic. He helped the kids to focus on the content and gave a creative touch to the performance! Mr. Matthew Hale gave such a bright and lively performance of "Juanita The Spanish Lobster". His beautiful singing, body language and vocal skills were all wonderful. All the children loved him and listened to him intently. My child loved him so much!

---------- Miss Lee (Fan Ling)

Enchanting and imaginative story-telling with superb music!

---------- Mrs. Jok (Kowloon Tong)

The diver at the introduction was very lively and helped to settle the atmosphere in the audience. I have never seen any programme like this before: the combination of music with narrated story was very refreshing indeed! "The Little Mermaid" was good but "Juanita The Spanish Lobster" was even better. A wonderful programme for the whole family!

---------- Ms. Wong (Hung Hom)

In "The Little Mermaid", the music was performed extremely well. The performance of the two pianists was particularly wonderful. Of course, the story by the famous Hans Christian Andersen was very good for my daughter. In "The Spanish Lobster" the narrator Matthew Hale performed very well. He sang in Spanish style and danced like a lobster. My daughter really enjoyed these two performances. It made her like the orchestra very much.

---------- Mr. Chiu (Aberdeen)

Congratulations to these friends, who have each won TWO FREE TICKETS to the CCOHK’s upcoming Twins on Winds concert. We will be in touch with you soon!

Here are comments from several children from schools in the Tin Shui Wai area who attended the 3pm performance. The Silver-Garburg Duo from Israel has kindly donated CDs to each student for their feedback.

I thought the CCOHK presented a good concert because the players showed team spirit and all the various instruments/performers complemented each other. I liked “The Little Mermaid” best because the sound was gentle and soothing. I was fascinated by the solo melodies for the two pianos, violin, cello and the double bass. The performance made me feel happy and at ease.

---------- Miss Lee (ten years old)

The CCOHK gave a nice concert. I was absorbed by the performance because the music was fun and full of life. I liked “Juanita the Spanish Lobster” best because Matthew Hale’s voice and actions made us all happy. It was fun indeed. I would give this concert a mark of “A” because it actually recharged me. Also the close-knit collaboration between the various instrumentalists was an eye-opening experience for me.

---------- Miss Yiu (ten years old)

The performance was very good. Apart from being united, the orchestra, guest soloists and narrators put a lot of effort into the performance. I liked “The Little Mermaid” best because the music had many high and low moments which drew me into the story. In addition, Nancy Loo described the story most vividly even though I could not understand all the English words. On the whole I got a good impression and feeling from the concert because the musicians gave a sense of unified spirit and were earnest and diligent in preparing the performance. It has been an unforgettable experience for me.

---------- Miss Lee (ten years old)

The CCOHK and guest performers gave a brilliant show. They were really into the music and worked well with each other. I liked “The Little Mermaid” best because the narrator changed the tone of her voice to represent different characters, and there was a lot of variety in the accompaniment which helped to draw me into the music. I enjoyed such a cultural experience. However it would have been even better if there had been Chinese subtitles.

---------- Miss Tang (seven years old)

The CCOHK gave a united performance and showed team spirit. I really appreciated them. They were really into the music when performing. This made me listen even more intently.

---------- Miss Lee (eight years old)

The CCOHK presented a good show. The music was gentle, pleasing and wonderful. Moreover there was a wide range of emotions to reflect the story. I liked “Juanita The Spanish Lobster” best because the narration was very funny. The music was unusual yet interesting, and there was even singing in the narration. It had been a “one-in-a-million chance” for me to experience such a performance for free. I now understand that it is not easy to be a musician.

---------- Miss Dai (eleven years old)

I thought the performance was very good. The audience was carried away by the beautiful music. I liked “Juanita The Spanish Lobster” best because the narrator Matthew Hale also sang songs. He sang very well and the audience liked him a lot. I felt that all the music elements were well co-ordinated in this concert: the music was wonderful and moving, the narration was well received by all and the audience did not feel bored. I wish I could have another chance to experience such a performance.
