In this issue we are pleased to share with you COMMENTS FROM OUR AUDIENCE MEMBERS who attended our "Twins on Winds" concert which was co-presented with the Consulate General of Israel in Hong Kong on 3 April 2008.

Here are the comments:

This concert left me with a deep impression. The twins were superb. Hong Kong people are blessed to hear a performance of such high standard. The CCOHK is an orchestra of a high standard.

---------- Mr. Chan (Tai Koo Shing)

I never imagined that young musicians like the twins could perform to such a virtuoso level. The music they played was like a gift from heaven. The performance was simply way beyond expectation. Bravo!

---------- Ms. Wong (North Point)

Bravo! Every single audience member was moved by a thrilling and exceptional evening of classical music. Everyone enjoyed the seamless, harmonious cooperation of the twins. This concert has successfully aroused the public’s interest in classical music. I am indeed looking forward to another opportunity to enjoy this kind of concert.

---------- Mr. Pang (Yau Yat Tsuen)

The CCOHK played the two Mendelssohn pieces so energetically. It was a precious chance to appreciate artists from Israel - especially the twins who played the clarinet. Their performance was impressive and marvellous. Conductor Lior Shambadal from Israel collaborated well with the orchestra, and the piece by Partos also provided a rare chance for us to listen to music by an Israeli composer.

---------- Ms. Lau (Diamond Hill)

Superb, amazing and excellent! Worth every penny! Highly recommend it.

---------- Mrs. Hammond (Discovery Bay)

This was more along the lines of a standard-repertory programme, but the inclusion of the Partos piece was invigorating. The soloists were ingratiating: their playing had a wonderful singing quality.

---------- Mr. MacLean (Sai Kung)

It was a really wonderful performance. The twins played in such a captivating manner. It is so rare to hear such a performance.

---------- Ms. Lee (Wan Chai)

This is my second time listening to the CCOHK. My daughter and I were totally immersed in the performance. We liked the conductor, the twins and all the combinations of music. Deeply impressed!

---------- Mrs. Hui (Hung Hom)

I came with high expectations of the Gurfinkel Clarinet Duo and they did not let me down. It was fascinating. I must say I was absorbed!

---------- Miss Chan (Lam Tin)

The twins were brilliant. An absolute joy to listen to!

---------- Ms. Yeung (Tai Koo Shing)

Awesome, extraordinary, magical!

---------- Mr. Coleman (Soho)

Tonight’s performance was so good that I do not know how to put it into words. From the start the string players of the orchestra gave us wonderful music. I particularly loved the Gurfinkel Clarinet Duo because their sparkling and beautiful performance captured me and carried me away. I think the twins are born to be stars of the classical stage. Their talent shines through and makes the audience love them. Excellent!

---------- Mr. Yip (Sham Shui Po)

This was a really wonderful and enjoyable concert!

---------- Ms. Wang (Beijing)

I am not a connoisseur of clarinet music but the Carmen Fantasy was really good. I was carried away by the mixed soundscape of strings and woodwinds. The twins’ dedication to their music shone through their performance. I could have listened to them all night!

---------- Miss Liu (Sha Tin)

The Mahler was very gentle and beautiful. I was carried away.

---------- Mr. Lam (Chai Wan)

Congratulations to these friends, who have each won TWO FREE TICKETS to one of the CCOHK’s upcoming concerts. We will be in touch with you soon!

We are also delighted to share with you COMMENTS FROM OUR YOUNG AUDIENCE MEMBERS (aged eleven to fifteen) who attended our educational concert with the Gurfinkel Clarinet Duo and guest conductor Lior Shambadal held at Yuen Long Theatre on 2 April 2008.

Here are the comments translated into English:

This was an unforgettable experience. I never imagined that our school would take us to a concert of such a high standard. I do hope that there will be more opportunities like this in future. The orchestra’s technique was superb and the clarinet duo was exceptional. I learnt things about the different instruments (e.g. the violin’s range) in this concert. The most memorable scene was Lior Shambadal coaching the student conductor. The way in which he taught the student also greatly enhanced my understanding of music.

---------- Mr. Cheng (Caritas Yuen Long Chan Chun Ha Secondary School)

I really felt great about this concert because the performers and conductor did justice to the music and showed excellent cooperation in all the pieces. I learnt the importance of cooperation in playing chamber music and also the role of a conductor in establishing different tempi and rhythms.

---------- Miss Yau (HKMA K S Lo College)

I think the performers did very well in this concert. They were really into the music and gave an exuberant and moving performance. I learnt a lot about the orchestra and the lives of some of the great composers. I also learnt from the performance that one needs to persevere in learning new things.

---------- Miss Yeung (HKMA K S Lo College)

The conductor was lively, the violins sounded wonderful and everyone was into it. The performers had plenty of eye contact which enhanced communication with each other and made for a cohesive performance. Excellent! I received a lot of insight into conducting techniques and the various composers’ lives, characters and circumstances which influenced the music they wrote.

---------- Miss Ho (Bethel High School)

Everyone was very professional. They were all into the music and I could feel the musicians’ concentration and mood. I learnt the importance of team work and cooperation in a small group and also the attitude one should have when making music.

---------- Miss Tsim (Tin Shui Wai Government Secondary School)

The performance was magnificent. I could sense the performers’ attentiveness. I learnt devotion and respect for music.

---------- Miss Lau (Tin Shui Wai Government Secondary School)

This concert was wonderful, lively and really touching. The twins received so many prizes at such a young age. They are also touring around the world to perform. What thrilling experiences! The conductor was very professional as he led the players into the music. This was my first time listening to chamber music and this concert was quite different from the ones I have been to before. The music is equally good but there are fewer players. I learnt a lot about chamber music in this concert.

---------- Miss Pat (Bethel High School)

This concert gave me a great deal of enjoyment. The performers were professional - especially the twins who played the clarinet. They performed difficult pieces at such a young age. Most admirable!

---------- Miss Tung (Tin Shui Wai Government Secondary School)

Very good! Great! I felt bored at first, but after a while I was “woken up” with excitement: there are so many instruments that one can learn!

---------- Miss Sin (Chiu Yang Por Yen Primary School)

Excellent! Very good! I learnt that one should persevere to the end in doing everything. I also learnt a lot of new music.

---------- Miss Wong (Chiu Yang Por Yen Primary School)

Congratulations to these friends from Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai schools, who have each won a FREE CD. We will be in touch with you soon!
