Interview with Elodie Grellety Bosviel, violinist of the CCOHK.
Where are you from and how long have you been in Hong Kong?
I am from Versailles, France and I have been living in Hong Kong for four years.
What brought you to Hong Kong?
I came to Hong Kong because my husband was transferred here to work. I was not expecting at all to live in Asia (I was more in the mood to move to South America!), but as soon as we settled in Hong Kong I immediately fell in love with this incredibly dynamic city.
What do you enjoy most about playing in the CCOHK?
I love the wide variety of the repertoire we play. I also like the friendly atmosphere among the CCOHK musicians and the intimacy of playing chamber music with them. All this helps me to give my best in performance.
Which CCOHK guest artist has made the biggest impression on you?
Daniel Binelli, the bandoneon soloist featured in the “Tango!” concert in January 2007. I like passionate people, and Binelli is just that. He puts so much passion and conviction into his playing. I was moved by his wonderful performance.
Which CCOHK concert has been the most memorable for you?
The “Tango!” concert mentioned above in which we collaborated with bandoneon player Daniel Binelli and pianist Polly Ferman. It was the first time I played tango-inspired music with an orchestra. A very exciting experience indeed!
How did you come about choosing the violin?
In fact I wanted to learn the piano at first, but the piano classes at the Versailles Conservatory were full so I had to choose another instrument. I had the opportunity to attend a violin recital where I discovered for the first time the rich and amazing sound of the violin. My heart immediately melted and I started taking violin lessons shortly afterwards.
Name one of the most important milestones in your music career.
It was performing Mendelssohn’s violin concerto in 1988 for the then-President of France, Francois Mitterand. It was a great honour and a most memorable experience.
What message do you have for our friends?
Please do attend our concerts. The music we play is always refreshing and incredibly colourful!
