In this issue we are pleased to share with you COMMENTS FROM OUR AUDIENCE MEMBERS who attended our "The Magic Jungle" concert on 19 and 20 July 2008.

Here are the comments:

Fantastic! A new way to introduce the orchestra to young children! The performance captured my son’s attention throughout. He clapped along and enjoyed the show very much. Thank you!

---------- Mrs. Au (Kowloon City)

A creative, entertaining and out-of-the-ordinary way to introduce music and musical instruments to children. Sixty minutes passed without notice - even for the young kids.

---------- Ms. Wong (North Point)

The programme was child-orientated, innovative and entertaining. I really felt the music led me into the jungle. The costume of the conductor and the make-up of the musicians were as attractive as the songs. The City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong always gives good programmes and pleasant surprises to the audience. Excellent! Thank you!

---------- Miss Lee (Fan Ling)

I attended the concert with my five-year-old daughter. I have taken her to other serious orchestral performances before but have never been successful in getting her slightest interest. This time it was really interesting. In the concert a story was used to introduce the children to different kinds of instruments, their sounds, rhythms and different styles. It put learning into entertainment (edutainment). This is very rare and I found myself enjoying the show too.

---------- Ms. Hung (Tai Kok Tsui)

I felt that this performance had been given a lot of thought in the planning stage. The performers were willing to put on “exaggerated” make-up and to adopt creative methods to introduce so-called “serious” orchestral music and orchestral instruments to the children.

---------- Miss Au (Tuen Mun)

This was an outstanding performance which left a lasting impression on us. Turning the orchestra into a family of jungle animals was very appropriate. This concert has helped me introduce music to my son. Thank you.

---------- Mrs. Lui (Tseung Kwan O)

It was a great performance! The characters in the orchestra were wonderful, especially the snake on the oboe and the crocodile on the saxophone. My son liked the elephants on the bass best of all.

---------- Ms. Tsui (Sha Tin)

I really liked the special way in which the musicians entered the hall. With the combination of narration, singing and drama the children were introduced to the sounds of all the instruments. The drama and costumes also left us with a vivid memory.

---------- Ms. Lam (Kowloon City)

The songs were lovely and the format of the performance was very interesting. Little children learnt about the sound of the oboe.

---------- Miss Lee (Fan Ling)

Very entertaining and innovative! The programme allowed us to enjoy the music and learn about all kinds of instruments. The make-up was good and all the characters were great. The little girl actress (Chu Pui-ying) was especially lovely.

---------- Mr. Cheung (Kwun Tong)

This programme was full of excellent and interesting ideas. Thanks to the good performance of the orchestra, the children were able to learn more about music in a fun and non-intrusive way.

---------- Mr. Wong (Kwai Chung)

Thank you for introducing my four-year-old son to a live orchestra. After the concert my son was able to name the musical instruments he saw that night, how they looked and what sounds they made. He could also tell what the conductor (the lion) did in the orchestra. I was also surprised to find that my son could recall some of the lyrics to the songs in the Magic Jungle. It is amazing to see the powerful effect of music on little children. Thanks again!

---------- Ms. Lau (Yuen Long)

The lighting, costume, make-up, songs and rundowns were excellent. I was especially impressed by the way the musical instruments and sounds were introduced. Great show! Well done! I would like to see similar educational shows in the near future.

---------- Ms. Wong (Hong Kong Island)

I appreciated the lively and interesting way of story-telling. The children got to know all the different instruments and to hear the different sounds of the bass (elephant), violin (monkey) and oboe (snake).

---------- Mrs. Luk (Tseung Kwan O)

The music was great and the artists were wonderful!

---------- Miss Leung (Tai Po)

The show was really “magical”. My four-year-old son was so excited and involved that he kept telling me he liked the music and the songs. The costume was great, as was the young artists’ performance. I hope there will be more shows like this in future.

---------- Mrs. Ho (Chai Wan)

The presentation was interesting and very educational.

---------- Miss Cheng (To Kwa Wan)

It was a wonderful way to introduce young children to the orchestra. The combination of acting, singing, dancing and storytelling to introduce the musical instruments in an orchestra was most enjoyable! It was also a great way to help kids learn English.

---------- Ms. Lee (Tai Koo Shing)

Terrific combination of music, orchestra, story-telling and drama. A great way for my kids to learn the musical instruments.

---------- Mr. Lun (Mong Kok)

Excellent show and a good introduction to musical instruments for my children. Well done!

---------- Ms. Tam (Siu Lam)

Very Good! My kids enjoyed it very much. They are now more familiar with different instruments!

---------- Ms. Lo (Ma On Shan)
