Director's Notes

Dear Friends,
Welcome to our 2008/2009 concert season!
Together with Jean Thorel, our newly appointed chief conductor from Paris, we hope you will enjoy the special programmes we have devised for your enjoyment. Featured artists include Catrin Finch, former Royal Harpist to HRH the Prince of Wales, and the internationally acclaimed Russian cellist Alexander Rudin. The young and gifted Chinese pianist Ang Li will be showcased in our annual rising-star concert, and for families we have Howard Blake’s The Snowman - a special Christmas treat to melt your hearts. 2009 marks the 200th anniversary of the death of Haydn. To commemorate this event we will be performing a series of early Haydn symphonies. Join us in discovering the endless creativity and inventiveness of the man affectionately known as the “father of the symphony”. Other special highlights include the celestial sounds of Thomas Bloch’s glass harmonica and Jörg Waschinski’s heavenly notes in operatic arias recalling the golden age of the castrati. To round off the season we will tour to Europe with Chinese pipa virtuoso Yang Jing performing a refreshing programme of mostly modern Chinese music.
After nine years running, the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong is now firmly established as one of Asia’s leading chamber orchestras. Our 2008/2009 subscription season further consolidates our long-standing reputation for commitment, excellence and excitement. So come, take a seat, and join us as a subscriber. (You can click here for more information on the season concerts and here to download the booking form.) We look forward to the pleasure your company.
