In this issue we are pleased to share with you COMMENTS FROM OUR AUDIENCE MEMBERS who attended our "Queen of Harps" concert on 30 September 2008.

Here are the comments:

A really exciting performance! Catrin Finch is definitely the Queen of Harps: every single note she played was crisp and clear and a delight to the ears. Praises should also be given for the choice of repertoire: all the pieces were lively and appealing. In addition, every orchestral member was outstanding.

---------- Ms. Lee (Wan Chai)

Excellent! Interesting programme, and the orchestra has a beautiful rich sound.

---------- Mr. Loynd (Yuen Long)

Out of this world.

---------- Mr. Cheung (Kowloon)

It was great! I could not really hear the harp when I went to hear some of the other orchestras because the other instruments were too loud, so this was the first time I could really hear the harp.

---------- Miss Lam (North Point)

This was the first time I attended a CCOHK concert and I was very impressed with the quality of the sound. The combination of harp and strings sounded great. Thank you for providing opportunities for the public to enjoy such a beautiful concert!

---------- Mr. Liang (Mid-levels)

The music selection for this concert was fantastic. I particularly liked Tomasi's Highland's Ballad which required a high standard of technique from every player. Of course the most impressive element of the concert was the elegant performance by Catrin Finch!

---------- Miss Chan (Sha Tin)

The performers seemed so concentrated on stage that I wondered if they noticed how attentive the audience was. The performers' focus led to a very well focused audience. The hard work and attentiveness displayed by every performer truly touched the audience. Although I know nothing about music, I do feel that only music so diligently played can move people's hearts. My praises go not only to the Queen of harps (Catrin Finch) but also to all the musicians.

---------- Miss Lam (Sham Shui Po)

The programming was very good: it showed different facets of the harp repertoire, style and character. The CCOHK is more than just a good orchestra in Hong Kong: it is one which is also expanding its horizons.

---------- Miss Liu (Sha Tin)

Amazing! Bravo! Unforgettable!

---------- Miss Lam (Sham Tseng)

I have never been to a performance of such prodigious level. This performance was really wonderful. I especially liked the Boieldieu harp concerto. The crystal clear sound of the harp together with the violins, cellos, oboes and other instruments conjured up an amazing sound. The audience was carried away by the seamless cooperation of the players with good dynamics and rhythmic control. I admire Catrin Finch's confidence on stage. Her skillful technique together with her elegant stage presence makes her the real "Queen of Harps".

---------- Miss Yip (Sham Shui Po)

Tonight's concert was amazing. The arrangement was good and the performance excellent. It was absolutely worth hearing.

---------- Miss Teng (Sha Tin)

Enchanting music wonderfully performed.

---------- Miss Fung (Taikoo Shing)

This was really a wonderful performance! The harp and the orchestra were beautifully matched and the melodies were tuneful. I was left with a deep and lasting impression. I hope there can be more performances of this kind for the general public to enjoy.

---------- Miss Mo (Tsuen Wan)

The coordination between orchestral members was very good: together they performed beautiful music. The opening Handel Overture caught the audience's attention. The performance by the chief conductor Jean Thorel and harpist Catrin Finch was nice and approachable. Overall I felt the performance was both lively and profound. This was an extremely good season-opening concert!

---------- Miss Lee (Fan Ling)

Fantastic and brilliant.

---------- Mr. Ma (Wan Chai)

This was really a wonderful night. Every single member of the audience - whether young or old, male or female - was entranced by Catrin Finch's performance. Her harp playing was both fluent and full of emotion.

---------- Miss Luo (Sha Tin)

The sound of the harp was exquisite. I was intoxicated by the wonderful music and hardly noticed that two whole hours had passed! Unforgettable! I look forward to the next concert. Keep it up!

---------- Miss Yu (Tsuen Wan)

First class!

---------- Miss Poon (Tseung Kwan O)
