Born in Berlin, Jörg Waschinski first gained international recognition in 1996 after becoming a prize-winner at the Johann Heinrich Schmelzer competition in Melk, Austria. In 1999 the renowned German opera magazine Opernwelt named him best young singer of the year and the Bonn Opera voted him best singer of their 2000/2001 season. Jörg Waschinski was the first male soprano to study with Professor Renate Faltin at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. The presumably lost roles of the legendary baroque castratos belong to his repertoire in addition to the early classics until the time of Mozart (e.g. Cherubino, Sextus, Aminta). He has worked with conductors such as Ton Koopman, Reinhard Goebel and Christoph Spering among others. His numerous stage appearances include the role of Xerxes in Handel's Xerxes at the Town Theatre Sankt Gallen in 1998 and Nerone in Monteverdi's L'Incoronazione di Poppea at the State Opera Hanover in 2000. Jörg Waschinski's CD recordings include Johann Christian Bach's Endimione directed by Bruno Weil which won the 2000 ECHO-Klassik Prize for opera recordings, Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf's oratorio Giob led by Hermann Max which received the 2002 Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik and a recording of Pergolesi's Stabat Mater with countertenor Michael Chance under Helmut Müller-Brühl.
